Poughkeepsie train station is a four-story construction that took almost five years to complete. It is designed in Beaux-Arts style with an elaborate illustration of terra cotta corners.  

It has 5 beautifully arched front windows sculpted with masonry work. The station has well placed three large chandeliers which adds to its well-designed ceilings. Adding to all this the 14 chestnut benches with the look of stained walnut give you the elegance of that era.  

The architecture was given its historic presence in the year 1976. This monument did go for a reconstruction where its terra cotta cornice architect with doors, windows, bricks got replaced in the year 2009.  

After the renovations were done by Metro-North starting from the year 2002, the Poughkeepsie station now is directly connected to the waterfront.
